Travelling through Rwanda and Tanzania by lead me through quite arid places that were created by cutting trees for charcoal production. At this point I decided to give some thought to developing cooking/heating systems that avoid charcoal.
As mirror ovens are available since long and never made it to be use more widely. During the inspection of water drilling systems north of Kampala it became very obvious to me that it is urgently needed to develop charcoal free heating systems.
In cooperation with Prof. Noble Benadda we wrote we drafted a research proposal that unfortunately did not raise any funding.
